The name Fortress comes from the bible in the book of Psalm which says that “The Lord is my refuge and my Fortress.” which the duos parents gave to them. Fortress simply means a safe place where one can turn to for protection. It is a duo of sisters from the same family, Tamanda and Thabi. Our music signature is Afro-urban fused with RnB and Hip hop soul. Fortress music accommodates Malawian, and African cultures, the global community, various age groups and lifestyles. We play instruments such as guitar, piano and Chisekese. We started singing to different types of music at a very tender age.
With no album out yet, fortress has performed live with big artists and has featured in various productions. We have collaborated with local Malawian artists such as, ‘’I used to dream’’ by Dominant 1, ‘’Misozi’’ by Third eye and International artists such as Zone Fam from Zambia. Our biggest break came when we featured in one of 2011’s successful video on climate change titled “Make a change” which also featured other local artists such as Theo Thompson, Tay Grin, Maskal, Sonye, Physix, Black thunder and Rina. Our biggest live performance to date was at the Women of Distinction awards which were held at the New State house on the 10th of March 2012 where we shared the stage with Kanda Bongo Man and the opening for Psquare at the Golf Club in 2013. We have also performed in countries such as South Africa and Zambia.
The plan for 2017 is to kick off the new year with a single titled Victorious! which was produced by Award winning producer DJ Sley. The song is an upbeat afro-urban tune which says that people must not give up and know that they are victorious in all things especially through Christ. More singles will follow after this.
We are Fortress and we sing with passion and dedication. We want to spread the word of God through our music and hope that people will be moved touched and even praise and worship with us through song.
