JB Kanumba

Biography

JB Kanumba was born Jawabu Hassani abdul-Qadir Janaheli (01July 1994) his parents are from the southern part of Malawi he developed the love of music since birth, he enjoyed listening to music by Alan Namoko & Late Vic Marly from Malawi, K Millian from Zambia,Saida karoli & Mr nice from Tanzania,Chameleon from Uganda and Buju Banton over seas so he always wished to once be like them. At the age of 10 he started trying freestyles at school,he did this until he reached 12 years . Then he thought of hitting the studio with his first single titled “nkazi”,although it always seemed challenging to him since it was hard to convince producers that at his age he could rap (he was a rapper by then). After his first single he gained a small fan base, community wide & it was no more hard to convince producers around there. He did all this while he was in primary 7,when he got to secondary school he slowed down pace he was no more that much active but still, within the school premises he entertained his mates & some outsiders… After his MSCE in 2014 he went to South Africa where he went back to the studio, back to back after some years he came up with a cover track (never give up by HARMONIZE) that was 2019 and People were impressed by the young dwag. the following year (2020)during the covid-19 he thought of taking the next step by releasing his first ever single track titled “ilango" ilango means 'punishment ' him make his name since soon after the release of the track topped charts on URBAN MUSIC TOP SHOW @ with his nice songs back to back in 2022 he came up with an amapiano hit song that shaked the malawi music industry titled "ngawa wandanda" and he got nominated in MDUBZ JOZ AWARDS 2023 in SONG OF THE YEAR category and he won the trophy ? at the awards event is where he met the IB ENTERTAINMENT director (Mr Danse) and got signed under IB ENTERTAINMENT,and his manager(Ibrahim Balati from MALAWI based in South Africa ) is a CEO of the IB Recording label , And he is currently working with IB ENTERTAINMENT.
