Kananji (formerly known as “Rising Son”) is a rapper from Malawi. "From out tha south-east, a mouthpiece, devout priest of truth"... Kananji is a Malawi's next Hip Hop star. Infusing an undeniable flow, socially-aware and provocative subject matter with classic "back-pack" rap sensibilities, Kananji represents real hip hop.
With nearly 10 years in the game, Kananji was first featured in "Moto Wa Yaka" (the fire has started) (2005) compilation along side some of Malawi's most-respected rappers and producers. His features on the compilation, quickly caught the ear of the Malawian Hip Hop industry and led to him being featured on Malawian Hip Hop greats Dominant 1 and Third Eye's albums.
2008: The Memo, Kananji's first solo release, is featured on Taiwan's premier music blog, WaaKao.
2009: Kananji perfoms at the "Spring Scream" festival in Taiwan, opening for West-Coast legends Boo-Yah tribe.
2010: The Ill Connection, produced by Spooz is released.
2012: Fool's Gold, produced by Dominant 1 is released to rave reviews. Listed on the "Top 5 African album/mixtape releases of 2012" by 25toLyf blog.
