KBG (a stage name picked from his official name’s first letters, K[elvin] B[efore] G[umbi] is the founder of NyaLi. He has a Diploma in computer engineering from New Horizons (2007). He also has a technical background in Information Technology (he holds a BSc in I.T from the University of Malawi, Polytechnic 2011 and a Certificate in WEB 2.0 for development, 2014) giving him the niche he possesses to produce, record, mix and master vocals.
He has been central in developing rap artists in the Christian genre of gospel music through his production house Nyali Muzik. He began recording in 2007 when having discovered and nurtured his passion for music three years earlier and has a vision to impact the youth of Malawi. KBG has worked with Timveni Television to produce a shows like “Hanging out”, “Hear us Out”, “Open Source” and “NyaLiMuziK”, hosted and managed the event Mad Love Lounge, Malawi (2011-2012), produced, performed and scripted adverts for Arise Inc. He has also travelled around the Schools in Malawi performing from 2008 with organizations like PLAN MALAWI, UNICEF and TIMVENI TV advocating for the youth and empowering them to pursue their dreams despite the challenges they face.
KBG is always thinking music, so he’s always involved in music – writing, recording, and producing – in one way or the other. His love for all things music and of music of almost every genre may be traced back to his father who was a radio broadcaster and who would sing for him, and the family, regularly. Through his father, KBG got exposed to legends like Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, to music ranging from Reggae, Soul, Rhumba. If it was good music, KBG probably heard it. It is no surprise, then, that KBG’s music is as diverse as it is.
KBG is yet to perform in Zambia at the Black Rain concert and currently working on his 2nd mixtape, Chikoloboi Vol. 2 along with Nyali Muzik’s Break The Silence Vol. 2 alongside the rest of the Nyali Muzik family. His 3rd Album is also in the pipeline.
