Biography

Liwu is one of the longest serving rappers still active in Malawi Christian Hip-hop. He boasts four projects under his belt, including a critically acclaimed solo mixtape, Word is Born from 2007. Liwu seems to have found a niche in tackling mature concepts bordering around marriage, politics and public service, probably best exemplified in his 2013 cover of Jay Z’s Open Letter, which dropped a lot of jaws. With lyrical influences such as Shai Linne, Big L, Evangel, Nas, Jay Z and Lupe Fiasco, it is not difficult to see why Li is most renowned for his intricate and often complex wordplay and literary ability. Yet he is not afraid to have fun. On KBG's Sobo, Liwu playfully graces the second verse with the type of swag that would make any mumble rapper envious. A growing Christian, Software Developer, Graphic Designer among many things, Liwu is not afraid to wear all of his hats as he influences his generation towards Spiritual and Social growth, while remaining true to his cultural heritage and Malawian roots.
